The Shelby County Sheriff Department offers Limited Criminal Background checks to the public. This service is only available to the individual that is requesting their own background check. ID is required. When you request a Limited Criminal History, you will be required to fill out and sign a request form. Please go to the Sheriff Dispatch window to fill out a request.

The fee for this service is $7.00 Cash only
What records are checked during this Background Check?
The Shelby County Sheriff Department records are the only records that are checked. This is not a Statewide or National Criminal History.
What documentation will I recieve after the Limited Criminal History is run?
If the limited criminal history is negative, then this will be documented on the request form that you filled out. If the limited criminal history is positive and the record is more than a year old, then the Sheriff Department will contact the Shelby County Prosecutor's Office for a disposition on each case. This information will then be documented on the same form that you filled out as a request for information.
